Sisulu gardens
From the moment I met Shannon and Rio I began looking forward to the engagement photography session. Not only were they so much fun and easy going, but they had picked an amazing location; The Walter Sisulu Botanical gardens. This is one of our favorite places to do engagement photo sessions. From the secretive forests to the expansive grassy plains it has so much variety to offer, the couples photography opportunities are almost endless.
Along the riveR
Our first location was a beautiful, quiet path that runs alongside the river and ends close to the waterfall. For this series of photos we used the exquisite natural light coming through the trees to create a whimsical, playful look.
Into the forest
We then ventured deeper into the forest and found a fallen tree that started gracefully decaying. This was the perfect spot for some sitting photos. Shannon and Rio have such a natural connection, watching them interact was simply magical.
The fairytale
For the next scene we walked right to the other side of the Sisulu gardens. This enchanted piece of forest is one of the best-kept-secrets of the gardens. The light green grass and dense low-lying forest added a type of mystical enchantment to each image. Shannon, being a dancer, naturally meant that we had to take photographs of her dancing with Rio. These turned out beautifully, and I especially love the way the light caught Shannon’s stunning hair as she turned.
The end of an incredible shoot
As the day drew to a close, the light started to fade and we had to call an end to what proved to be a truly memorable afternoon. So with all our gear in hand we made our way back to the entrance and bid Shannon and Rio a warm farewell. After this, I honestly can’t wait to shoot their wedding.
